Antenna

Coverage Area

With its 2 remote sensing antennas, the Center is able to receive data from X-band remote sensing satellites over a 3000 km radius (from Sweden in the north to Sudan in the south, from the UK in the west to Kazakhstan in the east).

  • Although designing and launching satellites are very challenging tasks, the success of an earth observation satellite mission depends on the ground operation of the satellite, the good quality of the data received from the satellite and the availability of this data for users.
  • To accomplish this, satellite ground stations are needed that can send commands to the satellite and directly download/downlink the data as it passes through the communication cone, antennas and the necessary infrastructure.
  • Data processing, backup and distribution are also required.
  • The quality of the data and the performance of the sensors on the satellite need to be continuously monitored.
  • When necessary, calibration procedures need to be carried out quickly.
  • These functions are performed by the satellite ground segment/stations.
